NEW SIX TRACK RELEASE FROM THE RECENTLY FORMED POST-PUNK OUTFIT OF
BEASTMILK & GRAVE PLEASURES MASTERMIND, MAT MCNERNEY.
INCLUDING SPECIAL REMIX COURTESY OF ULVER.
Scorpion Milk is the recently launched project from Mat McNerney; the founding creator of Beastmilk’s highly-revered ‘Climax’ album & the subsequent three Grave Pleasures albums. Infused with elements of Beastmilk’s original DNA, the 2025 debut album ‘Slime Of The Times’ marked a new evolution point of his self-defined genre: Apocalyptic Post-Punk. An eclectic artist in his own right, McNerney’s roots are also firmly in the black metal underground of Finland & Norway, & continues to work in that genre (having formerly featured as vocalist for Dødheimsgard, among others), plus is also currently active with his band, Hexvessel.
Following swiftly in the wake of the critically acclaimed debut ‘Slime Of The Times’, Scorpion Milk returns with a new six track EP in the form of ‘Flesh Masks For Skulls’; featuring new original tracks, as well as the addition of two newly recorded cover songs for this release in the shape of Gang of Four’s ‘What We All Want’ & ‘Gut Feeling’ by Devo, giving an indication of what is fundamentally meant by "post-punk". It isn't a genre, but a time & a reaction. ‘Flesh Masks For Skulls’ also features a special remix of one of the ‘Slime Of The Times’ album highlights, ‘All Snakes, No Ladders’, courtesy of renowned Norwegian sonic experimentalists, Ulver.
‘Flesh Masks For Skulls’ marks a continuation of Scorpion Milk’s ongoing haunting yet abrasive construction of the soundtrack for the end times. A central theme of this release relates to the parasites of some areas of the music industry feeding on the life blood of artists & crushing the creative spirit. Skeletons in human costume, evident in lyrics such as ‘Guilty By Default’. Scorpion Milk is therefore McNerney’s middle finger, of freedom & revenge. To make music that has a voice & spirit regardless of conventions or genres.
Continuing the lineage of Mat’s cult post-punk & goth-metal hybrid music, Scorpion Milk draws from the decaying spiritual core of UK anarcho-punk & 80s post-punk with an opus ideal for fans of Killing Joke, Godflesh, Crass, Flux Of Pink Indians, Crisis, The Fall, & early Sisters of Mercy, yet also set to resonate with contemporary audiences into Health, Drab Majesty, Soft Kill, High Vis, Molchat Doma, Creeper, & Uniform.
